March 2023 President's Letter

Jim Hoekwater | Published on 3/1/2023
Mark Jahnke reminds us that although the first robin has not been spotted, spring is officially around the corner. It is the time that golfers rise out of the winter doldrums and anticipate the beginning of a new season. This is the season during which the natural world revives and reinvigorates after the colder winter months. During spring, dormant plants begin to grow again, new seedlings sprout out of the ground and hibernating animals awake. Similarly with the Club, February is traditionally the lowest month of attendance at our luncheon meetings. Members seem to hibernate or find some time to join the snowbirds and head south. After all, how many ice storms can one take?

We are looking forward to the spring reawakening as snowbirds return, golf and tennis clubs resume outside play, and the complications of getting out and about caused by ice and snow go away. The Program Committee has done a superior job of lining up speakers and we look forward to their presentations. Spring speakers are listed at the bottom of this page and include names I am sure you will recognize. Spouses and guests are always welcome. Please remember to make your reservations.

Spring is a great time to get involved by joining a sub club or volunteering to join a committee.Roberta and I are looking forward to the Feather Bowling Special Event at Cadieux Café on March 22nd . Contact Ed Benz or Jim Callahan for reservations or any other questions. Thanks to the Special Events Committee for organizing the event.

Our apologies for the following misprints in the recently distributed Directory:

 The Special Events Committee was inadvertently excluded. Ed Benz is the chairman and committee members are Jim Callahan and Tom Kneeshaw.
 Jim Regan and Henry Fischer were inadvertently not listed on the Website Committee.
 Bob Sullivan was inadvertently included on the US Army veteran list and with service dates of 1957-1959. He not only did not serve, in 1957-1959 he was a toddler. If you are the member who served in the Army during 1957-1959, please let Chip Rohde know.

See Page 46 of the directory for instructions on making corrections to the Directory to Dan Clark or contact him using the information in his Directory listing.

The Club is rich in traditions. We will continue to face challenges as opportunities, and respect traditions while surviving and flourishing.

Best regards,
Jim Hoekwater
