Michael Unsworth will speak on the Japanese FU-GO balloon attack on North America. Thousands of high-altitude hydrogen balloons armed with incendiary and high-explosive bombs, designed to follow the westerly winds of the upper atmosphere and drift to the west coast of North America, were deployed, He has written several articles and given numerous presentations on the Japanese balloon attack.

Unsworth is a co-author of the annotated bibliography Future War Novels (1984) and the editor of Military Periodicals. He has written numerous articles, concentrating on military history.
Michael received his undergraduate degree as well as a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from Indiana University. He followed at Notre Dame with a Master of Science in Administration – Non-profit/Public/Organizational Management.
In 1984, after stints with the libraries of Notre Dame and Colorado State University, he joined the Michigan State University Libraries. Unger retired in 2016. He initially served as History and Canadian Studies librarian. From 1999 to 2008, he was of Assistant Director of the MSU Canadian Studies Center.
Unsworth is an avid bicyclist and advocate of bicycling.
